Shared Overlay Items

Shared overlay items allow you to use the same overlay element across multiple profiles while keeping its settings synchronized. This is useful when you want consistent branding or functionality across different stream setups.

Overview

When you share an overlay item:

  • The item becomes available to link in your other profiles
  • Settings and data are shared across all profiles (e.g., theme, colors, text content)
  • Position and visibility are per-profile (each profile can place the item differently)

Use Cases

  • Consistent branding: Share an announcement overlay with your brand colors across all profiles
  • Unified counters: Share a gift counter that tracks the same data regardless of which profile is active
  • Reusable elements: Create a well-designed overlay item once and use it everywhere

How to Share an Overlay Item

  1. Open the Overlay Editor for the profile that owns the item
  2. In the sidebar, right-click on the overlay item you want to share
  3. Select “Share” from the context menu
  4. The item will now show a share indicator icon

Note: The profile where you share the item becomes the “owner” profile. Settings changes made from any profile will affect the shared item.

  1. Switch to the profile where you want to add the shared item
  2. In the overlay sidebar, click “Browse shared items”
  3. A modal will show all your shared items from all profiles
  4. Find the item you want and click “Link to profile”
  5. The item will appear in your current profile’s overlay

How Shared Items Behave

What’s Shared (Same Across All Profiles)

  • Item settings (theme, colors, fonts, etc.)
  • Item data (counter values, goal progress, etc.)
  • Item name

What’s Per-Profile (Different in Each Profile)

  • Position (X/Y coordinates)
  • Dimensions (width/height)
  • Visibility (show/hide)
  • Landscape mode settings for position and visibility

Real-time Synchronization

When you change settings on a shared item:

  • Changes appear immediately in all profiles that have the item linked
  • If a flow triggers the item (e.g., “Show Text” on an announcement), it appears in all profiles simultaneously

Managing Shared Items

Unsharing an Item

To stop sharing an item:

  1. Go to the owner profile (where the item was originally created)
  2. Right-click the item and select “Unshare”
  3. The item will be removed from all other profiles that had it linked

Warning: Unlinking removes the item from linked profiles. Their position/visibility settings will be lost.

Removing a Linked Item from a Profile

To remove a linked item from a specific profile (without affecting other profiles):

  1. Go to the profile where you want to remove the item
  2. Right-click the linked item and select “Delete” (or press Delete)
  3. Confirm the removal

The original item remains in the owner profile and other linked profiles.

Visual Indicators

In the overlay sidebar, shared and linked items have visual indicators:

  • Share icon: Indicates the item is shared (visible in the owner profile)
  • Link icon: Indicates the item is linked from another profile

Tips

  1. Plan your owner profile: Choose which profile should “own” shared items. This profile manages the master settings.

  2. Use descriptive names: Give shared items clear names so you can easily identify them when linking.

  3. Test in all profiles: After setting up shared items, test your overlays in each profile to ensure positioning is correct.

  4. Coordinate flows: If you use flows that interact with shared items, remember that the action will affect all linked profiles simultaneously.
