How to setup OBS Virtual Camera with TikTok LIVE Studio
TikTok Live Studio’s internal browser is outdated and can perform poorly when rendering web-based overlays. Many TIKTORY users have reported significantly better results by using OBS Studio with Virtual Camera instead. This guide shows you how to set it up.
Note: This method does NOT affect your stream’s visibility negatively. Only when streaming directly from OBS to TikTok using a Stream Key, your stream might see less activity.
Why Use OBS Instead of Direct Overlays in TTLS?
TikTok Live Studio uses an older embedded browser engine that struggles with modern web technologies. This can cause:
- Slow or choppy overlay animations
- High CPU usage from the TTLS browser
- Frozen or unresponsive overlays
- Delayed event updates (alerts, counters, etc.)
OBS Studio’s browser source uses a modern Chromium engine that handles overlays much more smoothly. By routing OBS through a virtual camera, you get the best of both worlds: reliable overlay rendering from OBS and the TikTok Live Studio streaming features.
Setup Guide
Step 1: Configure OBS Output Resolution
First, set your OBS canvas to vertical 1080x1920 for optimal TikTok portrait mode:
- Open OBS Studio
- Go to Settings → Video
- Set Base (Canvas) Resolution to
1080x1920 - Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to
1080x1920 - Click Apply and OK
Step 2: Add Your TIKTORY Overlay

- Select Browser
- Name it (e.g., “TIKTORY Overlay”) and click OK
- Enter your TIKTORY overlay URL
- Set the Width to
1080and Height to1920 - Click OK
Important: Make sure both your OBS canvas AND browser source are set to 1080x1920 for the best quality.
Step 3: Add Your Camera and Other Sources
Add your webcam and any other sources you want in your stream:
- Click + in Sources
- Add Video Capture Device for your camera
- Position and resize as needed
- Add any additional sources (images, text, etc.)
Step 4: Start OBS Virtual Camera
- In OBS, click Start Virtual Camera in the Controls panel
- Or go to Tools → Start Virtual Camera
- The virtual camera is now active and broadcasting your OBS output
Step 5: Add Virtual Camera in TikTok Live Studio
- Open TikTok Live Studio
- Add a new Camera source (not a Link source)
- Select OBS Virtual Camera from the camera dropdown
- Position the source to fill your entire canvas
Your full OBS output, including the TIKTORY overlay, will now appear in TikTok Live Studio.
Resolution Settings Summary
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| OBS Base (Canvas) Resolution | 1080x1920 |
| OBS Output Resolution | 1080x1920 |
| Browser Source Width | 1080 |

Troubleshooting
Virtual Camera Not Showing in TTLS
- Make sure OBS Virtual Camera is started before opening TikTok Live Studio
- Try restarting TikTok Live Studio after starting the virtual camera
- On some systems, you may need to install the OBS Virtual Camera plugin separately
Video Quality Looks Poor
- Verify both resolutions (canvas and output) are set to 1080x1920
- Check that the browser source dimensions match (1080x1920)
- In TTLS, make sure the camera source fills the entire canvas without scaling
Overlay Freezes in OBS
- Right-click the browser source → Properties → Refresh cache of current page
- See our OBS Frozen Overlay guide for more details
Summary
Using OBS with Virtual Camera provides the most reliable way to display TIKTORY overlays in TikTok Live Studio. While it requires initial setup, the improved performance and stability make it well worth the effort. Many users have reported dramatically better results compared to using TTLS’s built-in link sources directly.
